'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith continues battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the dramatic closing stages of Swansea's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear after the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range shot from outside the box, and his teammate immediately converted the rebound before sprinting toward the crowd to celebrate, with fans mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result sealed an incredible comeback given the team had trailed 2-0 midway through the latter period. In the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win earned a next round match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that far out," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right wing-back after Orient changed formation. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way the underdogs played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," he explains. "It feels like they always find their target and they know how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're doing well and then abruptly they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be alert every second of the game. It demands a tough attitude and focus just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He became a favorite as a popular figure across a couple of years at his former club and has swiftly done the same in Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a spell at League Two the Manchester club, before he departed his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without serious challenge. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that maturation for both domestically and internationally, shining for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the last several matches, including both legs fixtures against Germany. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his eye for a killer pass.

Starting Out

This represents quite the ride for the player from the neighborhood in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who used to see his parent, his father, also a central player, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

His single match for the Red Devils came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they played on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was closed owing to the weather of freezing cold. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was chilly," he recalls, grinning. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "This turned out quite easy, because I reached the point where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I thought I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

New Environment

It is the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a small coach driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, Ronald, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to socialize with the guys but I'm aiming to be the next one to drive independently and behind the wheel. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on London's Central line after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
